We all see the pictures on the news of people around the world who live in horrible poverty. My heart aches for them, knowing that their children are hungry and that they have little hope. In the past, I wondered what I could do to help. Most of these people are half-a-world away. Then I found out about Kiva. This is a non-profit organization that provides micro-loans to people in poverty. These loans allow them to purchase livestock, fishing nets, and sewing machines, etc. so that they can provide for their family and have hope of breaking the cycle of poverty. Through this site, you can read all about the entrepreneurs and pick which ones you would like to support. Twenty-five dollars from each paid session at Blue Prints Photography is donated to help an entrepreneur featured on the site.
The first group sponsored by Blue Prints Photography was the Promejoramiento Group from Guatemala.
This is a group of women involved in the industries of livestock and food production and sales. "Without this money, it is impossible to overcome," said one member of the group. With the loans they receive, they are able to pay for schooling and adequate health care for their children. Most of us take these things for granted, but for so many others in the world, good health and schooling are luxuries. Little by little, though, we can make a difference!
